    Have you picked up Twisted Traits, yet? Its a newer release by Andrea full of d20 and d6 rare Character Traits for each of the 8 main core classes and an additional occupation d20 Character Traits list at the back. I just got mine in the mail and did my readthrough yesterday. I think it oozes with ideas and creativity and seems like a resource that could be useful for other soloing rpgs too (like for backstory generation you could roll 2 traits - or one for their race and one for their class - and then use those titles and entries to kind of help design your character and have some good nuggets to flesh them out later). Each one entry was unique to the class/race, so I liked how the 25 traits seemed sort of "archetypal" and left to you the playmaster to decide what an elf or dwarf is in your game world. And because 4ad leans into the whole legoset mechanics building and houseruling, this mechanic is probably the best way to incorporate Race+Class into a 4ad game (Rogues either rolling on a halfling character traits or halfling classes roll on rogue traits). Or instead they could be treated as Minor Skills or Talents your character might have access to when they level up. Just putting this one on your radar if you were not yet aware of it -- it easily deserves a top 10 spot on my 10 fav 4ad supplements, Also got my physical copy of TTT last month. Slowly pursuing it over a camping trip, but noticed on page 85 there was quite the add on for halflings if you weren't aware of that seem pretty useful if using halflings not for TTT missions (they now get bonus' to Persuasion and Stealth saves).

    I've been fascinated by the idea of solo RPGs and gamebooks for decades, and have tried all four games featured in this video, but I've not yet found one I enjoyed. The randomness just feels pointless to me. I just can't force myself to imagine that the random result was somehow "really waiting around the corner" all the while, at least not for longer than a few seconds. Oracles? Dice rolls to see what occurs? Unless the chances are heavily weighted by location and circumstances such as time of day or weather status, it feels hallow and pointless. By contrast, choose-your-own-adventure books are far too scripted and constrictive. I don't want very much lore and story; it just feels like I'm on a railroad, no matter how branching and clever the book's design. So, my search continues for something that strikes the right balance. Barbarian Prince thus far has gotten the closest to what I'm imagining my ideal game would be, in that it's largely a sandbox with some location- or region-dependent encounters that are almost scripted, and plenty of randomness but the randomness is always weighted by something like the area you're in, who you're traveling with, and other factors that make the world feel more interactive and player-driven.

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01 3 дня назад

      If you like Barbarian Prince maybe look at The Drifter (western theme tho) or Star Drifter (sci fi). That author is working on a fantasy themed one as well.

    I'm interested to know more about how you subdivide ultimate campaign into roll able tables in the downtime chapter. I think I can see that the teams section is a d20... but it looks like you roll 2 d8s for buildings and I can't figure out how the entries correspond to the possible dice outcomes.

    14:45 In scenario 1 rules E.7.b. they say to round-off downward for ratios. Thanks for the video--this helped convince me to reacquire the game. I had it as a kid in the 70s but it was too complex for me and I never even made it through Scenario 1, though I loved having it on my shelf. It disappeared from the family game shelf some time in the early 90s. Now as an older adult I am finally able to handle the rule set and have played through Scenario 1 with hopefully the rest to follow. The Terrans completely obliterated the Humanoid structures and army almost without a scratch. I'm not sure how Humanoids do better aside from lucky rolls and more strategic placement. Next goal is to attempt reading the book.

    How does this compare to something like D100 Space?

    • @GeekGamers01
      @GeekGamers01 День назад

      Totally different. D100 Space is much more open ended with the d100 tables being used to generate things. Star Drifter us more akin to a choose your own adventure with many choices (not as linear as CYOA) but still not attempting to be a sandbox as d100 Space does

    A Game Idea and Story came to me while the Reading was being done: Intro: Brother and Sister in an Aristocratic Family. Brother ascends in Title, while Sister is overlooked. Distraught, the Daughter is wandering the Marketplace, observing the Merchants, The Guild System, and realizes That is her Pathway to The Power She Should've Gotten. The Game becomes a Late Medieval/Early Renaissance Era of Mercantile Power Vs Aristocratic Power. Utilizing Merchant Guilds against Royal Houses, and/or Vice Versa. 😃 Yeah, you can add Magic and Dragons, etc. But, then, you're just playing Game of Thrones by that time.😁

    What a wonderful video! I adore Tarot and am just starting to dip my toe into TTRPG, especially solo play. I've got several decks now specifically in the hopes of using them with RPG's. The Adventurer's Tarot The Empress Deck is a 100+ Oracle card deck with some similarities to Tarot, based on D&D. It's gorgeous and can work with many RPG's. It comes with an additional reference of creating an entirely new player class of Oracle, with all the relevant stats as well as how to use the deck as a player moving through different levels. The deck also comes with several bonus resources for using the deck with gaming. Tabletop Tarot is a Rider-Waite-Smith clone in fantasy rpg style. There's also the Spread Crafters Quest Deck from Fables Den, which can be used in similar ways. Those are just a few. There's also the Eldritch Overlord Tarot, from the makers of the Adventurer's Tarot, set in a more futuristic, cyberpunk setting. There's also a literal Dungeons and Dragons Tarot deck that was released not too long ago. And soon to be released (I think) will be a Find Your Own Adventure Tarot. There's lots of mini Tarot decks available now. You just have to be careful to make sure to purchase a legitimately published deck and not a pirated/counterfeit deck. I found on a reddit thread a link to a pdf from Benebell Wen, highly respected in the Tarot community, as a resource for the Hermetic Tarot. I can't post a link, but try a google search with "Benebell Wen mathers and felkin golden dawn book T the Tarot 1888" Hopefully that will get you to her blog or post. Otherwise you could message Benebell and see if she could get you a link. I also found this on a reddit as well "I'm going to stand by both the book "Tarot Deciphered" and the podcast "Fortune's Wheelhouse." Both were created by the same people. That book and podcast will provide a broader overview of how Hermetic Qabalah, Astrology, and any other parts work together." Hopefully that can help you get started with delving deeper into the Hermetic Tarot.

    I love the concept of using a spread to generate some campaign details to start with! You and others might appreciate the Shadow Play Hybrid Deck and the Divine and Play Hybrid deck. They're combined with playing cards. It makes it really easy to take out the tarot specific cards and use it as a playing card deck for those uses/oracles and then put them back in. I love mine. I'm trying to track it down but the Hermetic Tarot at one point had a coloring book that had accompanying details about the symbols in each card. It might be out of print at this point. If I can find the title, I'll update this comment. It was a helpful tool for getting to know it because you're right it is a DENSE deck. Beautiful but just so many layers to get through. Shameless self plug: I made "The Beat Deck" (free on itch) which assigns beats from Save the Cat Beat Sheet to the major arcana and then gives inspiration words to the rest of the cards to help generate scenes and arcs of a story. I mention because it's one of a few tools folks are developing for the story architecture itself with tarot which I think is a fun trend lately. Since tarot is so narrative by nature I always love seeing how people use/split up the stories inherent in the deck.

    The Everyway RPG, from 1995, wasn't a great system, but it had elements which seemed to have made it into the solo rpg community. It came with a vision deck, that had pictures on the front and questions on the back to help you create characters and situations. It also came with its own tarot deck. Each character had a virtue, flaw and fate that were represented by specific cards. When they came up in game, special things would happen as a result.

      @raygun1966 25 дней назад

      Im actually liking it more the second time around. There’s something about the structure of how the dungeon Morphs and changes. The card play is challenging and believe it or not I like the wacky art mixed with the newer art for variety. The expansions have added a lot of value for me. Plus it’s small and easy to play once u know the keywords and game sequences. Maybe my expectations are less or after playing so many games over the years this one just feels like a comfortable memory of what a fantasy setting was in my mind. I feel like the leveling up over time is lacking but I like ur idea of turning something into a permanent. I’m going to try a creating a way to for characters who survive a scenario get a benefit such as choice to have a permanent, or increase in an attribute, or other ideas like yours. Please continue to share you thoughts on house rules, I found your suggestions opened doors to new ideas. ❤

      @raygun1966 Thanks… and you describe the reasons why I bought back into it… it’s easy to set up and gets the job done with just enough card play to make things interesting. I do like the (now quaint) art from the earlier sets with the other too. Will see how much it stays in my rotation after I get the stuff I reordered.

I'm a fan of loose water coloring and using urban sketching as a basis for how I made some of my art (cuz I'm an amateur). One of the videos I typically watch often says "It's ugly at this point, but keep working on it a bit and it'll all come together." I have found that it usually does! Keep up the great work.

    Very much appreciated. I got it cheap on eBay, but haven’t played yet.

    Interesting, looks like they're using AI art.
